he was a baseball rising star
stood on the pitching mound of our hearts
he was the apple of any eye that was laid upon him
she was an awkward mess of curls
a limited outlook on the world
her bangs in the way of her piercing gaze that had weighed upon him
before and after every game was an endless barage
calling out his name was his entourage
a posse she could never imagine being in
as long as he looked her way
and remembered her face
maybe even called her by her family name
but it's hard to tell with her hair in the way
he was born with a glove on his hand
knew how to swing before he learned how to stand
he's a little more familiar with baseball than he ever was with romance
she grew up in fantasy
a romanticized heart knitted on her sleeve
free to string along, what could possibly go wrong, just you wait and see
she tried letters that were lost in the wind
she tried presents but her presence was thin
no matter what she couldnt see him eye to eye
she knew she had to change
started snipping away
till sweaty fingers made a grave mistake
in the mirror a grave reminder
don't look in her eyes
or you might die
she hides her scythe in her backpack
so i've heard
that girl is cursed
it's best to stay away from her

sweeping up all the fallen hair now
ring up the last appointment of the day
closing up shop while my mother counts up
all the profits our little salon had made
you barely made it in the doorway
just in time for me to slam your toes
your eyes were wide and still moist from crying
and i thought "yeah that's usually how it goes with you"
but that's new
they were right there in open view
you cut your hair
you cut your hair
hurried you up to my bedroom
you told the story as best as you could
i did my best to hold back my laughter
and calmed you down like a best friend should
i draped the apron upon you
i assured you it would be okay
tried to remember what my mother had taught me
routinely asking "so how's your day"
"it's great"
you explained
"my best friend's here to correct my mistakes"
so i cut your hair
i cut your hair
you said to cut it short
rumor has it he's into that sort of style
i've always liked you just the way you are

the sun's too bright
it's all up in my eyes
i'm not used to seeing all my classmate's faces
looking at mine
and the wind is grazing my neck
i know that no one's there but i just have to double check
but something's not quite right
all eyes are on me
flashbacks to 1st grade where they'd all cry and scream
but this time
the look on their faces
look a little less like horror and more like amazement
and they say
so what's your name?
and what school do you go to?
something has changed
and it's not just my hairdo
the way they look at me
looks a lot like i look at him
they look at me
i'm kinda freaking out
they follow me around
they're asking me if i'm seeing anyone right now
and i see my best friend
looking on in awe
i'm starting to think they did too good of a job
and that's when i see him
and he sees me
the first time in my life we'd ever speak
and he says
what's up
thank god i am alive with my new haircut
so the
rumors were true
now i got his attention
my new hairdo
was the best thing to happen
now the way he looks at me
looks a lot like i look at him
so look at me
he looks at me
everyday and
i pray that we
can stay this way
the way they look at me
looks nothing like they ever did
they look at me
plese look at me
yeah look at me
they look at me
they look at me now that i cut my hair

the moment i saw her
i didnt know what hit me
harder than a baseball
at twice the speed
all i know is the diamond
the crowd and the excitement
but now you're all that i see
you're a fastball
straight to the heart
the bases are loaded
and you knocked it out the park
you've striked me out
all i can do is foul
you're a fastball
straight to the heart
your eyes shone bright
like the stadium lights
your tall, slender figure
like a nimble outfielder
your kindness and reach
attentiveness and speed
oh baby won't you join
our baseball team?
you're a fastball
straight to the heart
the bases are loaded
and you knocked it out the park
you've got what it takes
for the beautiful game
you're a fastball
straight to the heart
so when do you think you could start

rumor on the hallway is that the beautiful ball game
is currently being played between my beloved ace
and some other beautiful motherbunter
out of nowhere mystery lover
or so the rumor goes all that i know
is theres something out of place
because the only ones fit for that diamond is he and i
and here's this third-rate base-girl with her hair all shortly styled
framing her lovesick eyes
standing up to bat (that should be me)
making the ball crack (ooo)
catching his pitches and his attention
if that's how you want to be
we'll see
one visit to the barber later
i wrote in a challenge letter
she thought that i would just let her
lead him on without a fight
or at least a batting cage match
loser gets cut from the team
my batting average averaging unimpressively
but i got something up my sleeve
a little bird told me
dont look in her eyes
or you might die
from her psychic attack
dont let her know
just let her hair grow
her stylist is hostage

Haircut6 (...Aaand Cut!)

now there's a misunderstanding
i'm not a supervillain
born with the power of eye beams
and a holy baseball mitt
a history of rumors
spiraling out of control
just like the locks i had once grown
take it from me i'm just your
average anxious romantic
changing my hair in exchange for a glance
you've always had my back
and now you're all wrapped up in this for me
now i'm up to bat
and all i can do is swing
why is this even happening
i only wanted to see
his eyes and mine finally meeting
not join a baseball team
and now my hair is starting
to fall back into my face
not even sure if he's looking my way
and all i see is the baseball
flying straight towards me
and all i can hear is you cheering my name
he pulled my heart on a string
and with your clippers you trimmed it free
and now i can see
it stitched on the sleeve of a jersey
just close your eyes
let your heart guide
and swing for the fences
now i know
walking it home
right next to my best friend
hair tied away
stand face to face
with my love for
the beautiful game
